Scholarship Application for Houston
We accept applications from low-income, single mothers pursuing a nursing degree who reside in Houston. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and evaluated through a highly competitive process based on individual needs and essay responses.
The number of nursing students selected each year depends on available funding from our generous donors. Selected applicants are contacted directly by Single Mom Scholars, and all applications are kept on file for future consideration.
Requirements for application:
- Be a nursing major actively pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Reside in Houston, Texas
- Have at least one child living with them that is under the age of 16
- Have an adjusted gross income at or below 150% of the federal poverty guidelines
- Be legally single or divorced and not living with a domestic partner
- Completed at least one college semester with a minimum GPA of 2.8
- Be willing to participate in the organization’s Single Mom College Community meetings (6 meetings per year)
- Agree to follow program guidelines
